This floating house is designed to meet the needs of city residents; the layout accommodates flexible rooms of a sensible size to suit their purpose. Essentially, the house compromise two cubes jointed together and made of different materials; the timber frame construction is anchored to the concreted base. Entrance to the house is via the roof terrace. Inside, the main materials used is wood; wooden floorboards and walls create a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The exterior is clad with corten steel and untreated wood. The use of corten steel reflects Hamburg´s industrial roots, while the integrational of porthole windows reinforces the connection to traditional ship construction. A regenerative energy concept uses the canal water as a heat source.
